Resolution 322, Designating November 2011 as COPD Awareness Month passed unanimously in the Senate this past November, led by the Congressional COPD Caucus Co-Chairs, Senator Michael Crapo (R-ID) and co-sponsor Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL).
We are grateful to the Congressional COPD Caucus for continuing to recognize the work that remains to be done to improve the lives of those living with COPD. Raising awareness is critical because we know that half the people with COPD dont even know it, Miriam ODay, Senior Director of Public Policy at the COPD Foundation, says. ?e U.S. COPD Coalition is pleased to partner with Congress to promote prevention, diagnosis, treatment, education and research.
The Resolution encourages people to inform themselves about COPD, and to get screened if you think you may be at risk. It also encourages further partnership between the federal government and private entities to enhance patient education about COPD.
